Carissa's Notes:

When I was trying to make-up the plot of Maggie's first chapter, I was pretty much stuck. Then my friend Hikari told me about the Japanese demons called Tengu (or mountain demons). Her grandmother use to tell her to behave or else the tengu would come for her at night. But in reality, that wasn't an accurate threat. The character of tengu constantly changed over centuries. For instance, tengu were long thought to abduct children, but by the Edo period they often were enlisted to aid in the search for missing children. Even today, the Japanese offer rice cakes for the tengu in forests.
